"Our mission is to partner with individuals and organizations to help build self esteem and self confidence in the people they touch ultimately assisting them in building a new and better way of life."

"The Founder"

Frederic Holzberger "The Founder"
“While many people turn their heads away from those in need, Project Daymaker™ volunteers look them in the eye, offer a simple touch, and make a profound connection. Looking better, feeling better, interviewing for a job and receiving a boost in self-esteem can be the difference needed to take the first step towards a better life. Project Daymaker™ allows licensed professionals in the salon spa industry to help make that difference. Without the champion volunteers, it would not be possible. I appreciate them for their dedication to donating their time and talent to make it happen.”

"The Inspiration"

Sister Bonnie Steinlage "The Inspiration"
“My mission as a Franciscan Sister of the Poor is to provide care for poor and suffering humanity, providing dignity, respect and self esteem for those in need. Many people who are financially poor cannot afford the cost of a haircut. It is the poor who need to feel and look their very best, to feel energized and confident as they meet the challenges of facing another day of uncertainty, looking for a job, and housing and opportunities to better their life. A haircut does so much for any person, but for many of the poor, it helps them to feel human again.”

"The Heart"
Kelly Collison "The Heart"
“It is my honor to be associated with Project Daymaker™ and all of it’s volunteers, agencies and the clients we serve. Every event humbles me. We are able to help men, women and children in need in such a simple, sincere and kind way. Each service makes a difference whether it be for a week or a lifetime . . . it is the best work I have ever been involved in.”

"The Care Giver"
Gary Whitney "The Care Giver"
“My life changed in 1997 when I began working with Project Daymaker™. I feel so blessed to have a job where I feel great at the end of each day and to be a part of something that makes a difference in so many people’s lives. The stylists who volunteer give from the heart and I look forward to each event and seeing the smiles they produce. The gift of self esteem is priceless.”

Frederic Holzberger, owner of Fredric’s Corporation, the exclusive Distributor of Aveda Lifestyle Products to salons and spas in Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan and Indiana, met Sr. Bonnie Steinlage in 1992 at an educational hair event. He learned about her dream to provide the poor and homeless with haircuts at satellite beauty care centers. Frederic was so inspired that he immediately donated the necessary products to help make Sr. Bonnie successful. Her vision became his inspiration for Project Daymaker™.

Taking her concept one step further, Frederic decided to create a mobile salon that could travel to the people who would benefit from its services. He designed and customized a Winnebago, had it outfitted with three stylist stations, a shampoo bowl, a stress relieving station and a reception area. With the support of Aveda salons within Fredric’s distribution region, Holzberger launched Project Daymaker™ and his mission became a reality.

As a custom-designed mobile salon, Project Daymaker™ travels primarily throughout the midwest region to help those less fortunate. The 34-foot Winnebago salon partners with social service organizations and salon volunteers to provide beauty care services and personal hygiene education to those in need. In an effort to build self-esteem and self responsibility in the people they touch, Aveda salon volunteers donate their time and services, ultimately hoping to assist these individuals into the work force.

Volunteers are fulfilled by providing the most basic of human needs, the power of touch. As caretakers, volunteers are able to restore human dignity, while grateful clients enjoy the caring service they receive. For the poor and homeless, the boost to their self-esteem is the first step towards building a new, better way of living. This gift is invaluable, precious and improves all life.
